REVIEW: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Stone Cold Hustle

Wednesday 29 May, The Bell Inn

Take-no-prisoners hard funk, mostly guitars rather than horns, tight as a disco gigolo’s trousers, and either ferociously drilled alla Mr Brown or just sublimely in the pocket, even at high speed. It was hot on that dancefloor [the sweat not cold] and it was flooding off the stage. I’ve seen the bassie before somewhere, and Andrew Neil Hayes (run Logan Run) on tenor sax drew ecstatic applause from the crowd, but there were no weak links, agile drummer, two guitars but different styles - and here the rhythm parts are the critical ones of course.

Then, though he makes the laudable point that it’s not a one-man show, the most of your attention is demanded (no less) by frontman Mr Bon Suis. He’s got the rhythmic shouts, he’s got the screams, he’s got the throwaway lines, he takes his shirt off, he has the moves and puts most of what we see behind a mike at the grassroots gig level to shame. He is the business and he will take you there.

Everybody wanted more, but could we take it?

If your ass or mind require freeing in the classic manner - and whose doesn’t? - I would recommend the application of some Stone Cold Hustle.
